Such robots will one day build a Martian colony

When humanity is finally ready to move to Mars (and sooner or later it will certainly happen), then it will require help from outside. Help of real experts with encyclopedic knowledge, able to work under extreme loads and under extremely difficult conditions. They will need such droids as Justin. It is these humanoid bots, such as those created by the German Aviation and Space Center, that will be responsible for creating the first Martian dwelling for future colonists.

German engineers are working on improving the capabilities of the Justin robot for more than one decade. For the first time it was presented back in 2006 at one of the largest exhibitions of electronics and robotics. "Iron lumberjack" is able to work with various tools, shoot and share photos, catch flying objects and skirting obstacles of varying complexity. And now, thanks to the new updates that gave the robot an artificial intelligence system, Justin is able to "think" on his own without relying on a third-party operator.

Unlike most other robots, which need to be pre-programmed and given the necessary instructions for almost every movement, this robot is able to perform tasks completely offline – even those that it was not originally programmed to. Recognition technology, as well as a computer vision system, allows Justin to study its environment and cope with tasks such as cleaning and maintenance of various mechanisms, checking equipment and carrying things. In one of the latest tests in just a few minutes, Justin was able to fix the non-working solar panel. Interestingly, the robot's management was carried out remotely by one of the astronauts who were at that time aboard the International Space Station.

The robot's growth is 1.92 meters, its weight is almost 200 kilograms. With each hand, Justin is capable of lifting a weight of 14 kilograms. Thanks to the four fingers on each hand, he is able to cope with various instruments. As a vision system, the robot uses high-resolution cameras and a set of sensors that allow it to create a three-dimensional model of its environment. The robot is able to quickly synchronize with various computer equipment, as well as independently charge their batteries, connecting to a source of solar energy. All necessary protocols are stored in the local memory of the robot. In other words, he can perform tasks even in the event of loss of communication. And another of the robot's talents is that he knows how to make tea and coffee.
